Dear Prospective WGSC Player and Parents:

We’re in the midst of Webster Groves Soccer Club’s 17th season and everyone involved is extremely pleased with the progress and success the club has enjoyed since its inception in 2005.  We have assembled outstanding teams and, as a club, have proven ourselves to be more than competitive with all local clubs including the likes of St. Louis Scott-Gallagher, Lou Fusz, Sporting STL, among others. We’ve collected many SLYSA league titles in our relatively brief existence and numerous tournament championships, as well!  Our teams range from U9 - U14, with our 14s “graduating” each year to bring in a new U9 team. We will have semi-weekly “kickarounds” in the spring to choose recommended players for our teams. Roster sizes range from 12 in the younger age groups to up to 18 at the older age groups.

The club is primarily for players living within the Webster Groves School District boundaries. Our goal is to create teams that represent a cross-section of the community, so we will have a mix of players from both the Webster schools and the area private schools.  The advantages provided through Webster Groves Soccer Club are numerous.  Your child will be playing with and will eventually be friends with kids from their own community.  Activities such as practices, meetings, and games (indoor at the Soccerdome) will be local whenever possible. The cost is reasonable relative to the fees charged by other clubs in St. Louis.  Player development is our goal and our coaches provide that by giving maximum playing opportunities in training and presenting their insights into the game at the appropriate time and in the appropriate way.  Everything we do is accomplished within a competitive yet fun atmosphere.  Our kids love coming to every team activity! Additionally, the players are taught discipline, responsibility, respect, sportsmanship, honesty, etc.  All of us who competed in sports as young people will realize that this is the real value of youth sports--development of sport-specific skills and the aforementioned personal attributes through the enjoyment provided by competitive sports.  In short, that’s the philosophy of the club.

As director of the club, my coaching and playing experience will help ensure that your child will have an outstanding experience as a member of Webster Groves Soccer Club. I am a US Soccer D-licensed coach, an NSCAA Advanced National coach, with 20+ years of coaching experiences at the high school and youth levels. I presently serve as the head coach for the boys’ junior varsity team at Webster Groves High School and have been in this role since 2011.  My first class of freshmen in 2011 eventually led the Statesmen to back-to-back State Championships in 2014 and 2015. Many of those players played for WGSC in their formative years. In addition, I am the director of Webster Groves Soccer Club Summer Camps, and our newest entry point into WGSC, the junior youth academy, a.k.a our "Futbolistas" who are typically ages 5-9 and preparing for competitive soccer by age 8 or 9. I have also coached locally through parish CYC soccer programs and private schools.  My playing experience includes club soccer as a youth and at the collegiate level. I also spent many years as a soccer official at the youth, high school, club/competitive, and collegiate levels.

I think you’ll find our WGSC annual schedule to be reasonable for both child and parent.  Following the spring/summer kickaround/tryout sessions, we will then break to allow the kids participate in the regular CYC league in the fall. It’s my personal opinion that that the kids should continue to play with the CYC teams, which so many of the kids are a part of; for select players, it’s an opportunity to have a leadership role in the team and build confidence while still playing with their friends who may or may not be great soccer players.  Secondly, with the conflicts that inevitably result from playing both CYC and select soccer, it creates an unnecessary burden on kids and families to be at two places at one time.  I don’t think the development of any of my club players has been stunted by a lack of participation in fall select soccer.  In fact, in the long run, I think it helps maintain their freshness and enthusiasm for the game, which is critical in their development. Upon the conclusion of the CYC league, we will begin our season with a November-January indoor or futsal session, outdoor and indoor training, and fundraising efforts.  From February-May we will then play in a spring SLYSA (St. Louis Youth Soccer Association) outdoor league.  We will also participate in two tournaments (indoor and/or outdoor tournaments). In addition to the game schedule, practices throughout the year (November-May) will be held twice weekly.

In 2021-2022, we will practice weekly on the turf at SLUH (a short 12-minute drive from Webster Groves) and in gym space near the Webster Groves area or outdoors in the late spring at Lutheran South HS (a 10-12 minute drive from Webster Groves). Our players consistently train during the winter months when other teams and clubs often shut down.

The total cost and an itemized listing of the costs (approximate) appears below.  Considering the program, equipment, and the quality of coaching provided (not to mention the convenience!), I think you’ll find it reasonable.

TOTAL PARTICIPATION FEE: $975 ...(leadership incentives and sibling discounts available)

League/Tournament Fees: $455......(Winter indoor/futsal/Spring Outdoor/two tournaments)

Gym/Field Rentals: $250.......Fees for WGSD/Other gym rentals as well as for turf field training time (SLUH/LHSS currently).

Coaching/Coaching Education/Administrative Fees: $250.......(TeamSnap, USSF certification and United Coaches diplomas, office support, insurances, website hosting, accounting & tax filings, etc.)

Equipment: $20 (miscellaneous items to equip coaches and trainers with items then need to conduct proper training sessions and have match balls on hand).

*Costs are updated for the upcoming 2021-2022 season.

Since we typically only field one team per age group and gender, we have employed the "WGSC Reserve" program and teams may elect to carry one or more players to fill in for sanctioned and unsanctioned league play and all training sessions. The cost is  "half-price" of the primary roster player cost and the player's parents are responsible for ordering the base uniform kit.

Effective with a transition between uniform vendors in mid-2021, all player uniform kits are now provided by Soccer Master. Using the My Uniform system for ordering, parents will be able to order the required New Balance customized pieces for the 2021-22 season ( Long Sleeve black uniform, Short sleeve orange and white uniforms, black shorts, and one pair of black socks plus one pair of white socks, plus a sponsor supplied training shirt), replacement pieces (see required kit pieces), and optional items (balls, bags, customized warm up pants and jackets) for direct fulfillment by Soccer Master. Parents will pay for shipping and taxes in exchange for direct delivery of customized orders, with the support of Soccer Master's team sales/customer service departments. The "all-in" cost for the customized kit including taxes and delivery is projected to be under $200. We aim to get 2-3 seasons with a base customized uniform kits subject to manufacturer turnover of styles and inventory available, etc. As another benefit to our membership, there is an in-store retail discount for all WGSC members available. Just let them know at the sales counter you are a member of a WGSC team to get your discount.

I hope you will pursue the opportunity to join one of St. Louis's premier soccer clubs.
