  • I’m confused. What is the difference between Academy, Select Teams, Camps, & seasonal programs?
We understand. It can be confusing: Academy programs are offered year round in 6-7-8 or 9 weeks sessions. For most months, September to May, the programming is done inside available gyms in and around the Webster Groves community. Some satellite sites are in Maplewood, South City, and Mid-town and those programs happen during the summer evenings. WGSC Select (competive team soccer) is on a 12-month cycle. Programs and administration starts/stops in June, the 2nd Sunday of June historically. That is the first day of registration & offers being extended for the following Fall-Winter-Spring playing seasons. For WGSC Select, there is no active training in July. Teams that do elect to play in the Fall do begin training in August. All other teams start in November. WGSC Select teams typically train 2x per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and play matches on the weekend. Weeknight match play may happen occassionally. For WGSC Select, there is some "seasonality" to our traiing, with select teams training mostly outdoor in August to October, then a combination of outdoor & indoor training from November to March, and then back to primarily outdoor training in April to late June. Camps are anything we offer that is a minimum of 3 days in a row. Examples would be Holiday Camp and Summer Camps. Clinics are one day (am only) sessions typically offered in the mornings of a significant holidays, i.e., MLK, Presidents Day, Election Day, etc. when local schools are out of session. The sessions are indoors or outdoors depending on the seasonlity and availablity of sites to WGSC through its facilities affilitate. Leagues are offered periodically in the winter. These are sometimes only games and others we include a practice plus a game. Partnership Program is when another organization such as a recreational program, select program, school, etc. hires us for their training. Typically, the organization markets the program and supplies the field and then we bring all of the equipment and provide all of the training. Contact us for more information!
